In the Sourlands
In the Sourlands
by Wyatt Nestor-Pasicznyk
Materials and processes to create this piece include Champlevé and Cloisonné enameling on oxidized copper with fabricated brass findings. In the Sourlands is a commemorative belt buckle based off of a photo I had taken while working at a Living History Farm of one of their Holstein Steers. Only a few years old, he was deemed unusable and ineligible to be a working ox, having lost training time to Covid. He was culled due to aggressive behavior and tendencies. His brother who had been worked with more routinely from an earlier age resides at the farm as a working ox. The eerie landscape amid a summer heat storm with looming, rolling black hills in the background alludes to another life; an unknown final destination.
