Former Home. A place once lived. A place once loved. A place once hated. A place mourned. Our former homes hold so much and leave so much on us. The buildings, the people, the landscape, the dirt. This piece was created with dirt from NY, a former home for most of my life. While I’m no longer living there, it still has a hold on me. The dirt embedded into the enamel and on top will slowly shed over time, until only parts remain. Just as our memories of place and home fade, change, and morph. They say with loss you never fully get over it, but you find a way to live with it. You loose the smell, the warmth of the light, the thickness of the air, just as over time you will slowly loose dirt. But it never fully leaves you.
