It Was Nice While It Lasted

by Molly Shulman

"It Was Nice While It Lasted" is a brooch in two parts. The idea that we, as people, have never been more connected than we are now is both a lovely and a terrifying one. Even still, I am at that stage in my life where it is increasingly hard to find the time and energy to really connect with anyone. This piece depicts two skeletons talking on a tin can telephone. The image is reminiscent of the playfulness of youth and friendship before iPhones. The youth and the tin cans are gone - they've been replaced with Google Calendars and night creams. You can't help but to conjure images from your youth as the seasons change. And as we enter fall and scenes of Halloween surround us, is starts to become clear how removed you may be from the you of the past. Things change, people grow, trends shift, but wasn't it nice while it lasted?
